I'm 29 years old and was born with bladder exstrophy I had a major operation to reconstruct my bladder (using part of my bowel) and I rely on Intermittent self-catheterization to remain continent, I digress…
…anyway for 25 years I had been stone free, no problems, until 4 years ago since then I have had to have 4 operations to remove relatively large bladder stones. I have been on a full time course of potassium citrate and Nitrofurantoin, my diet is considered normal, I drink plenty of water and cranberry juice yet still the keep forming, which is baffling both me and my urology specialists?
Does anyone know what might be at the root of this problem? does anyone know anything that might be of help to the prevention of stones forming, or anyone in the same boat?
Regards

Hi Noel,
Just wondering if you use daily bladder washout?
The mucus produced by your augmentation has to be clear out as much as possible to avoid UTIs and stones.
Another possible cause of stone formation could be urinary tract infections, which not have necessarily to cause you severe symptoms.
You probably know all this, but let me know if you need further details.

We would always advise regular bladder washouts however some families suggest that taking Aloe Vera on a daily basis as well as washouts helps to prevent stone formation. Whilst I have no evidence to support this, apart from the family reports, it may be worth a try. Aloe Vera can be bought from the health food shop
